PINKY BLUE brings you my art and studio tips. And a wee bit of chat too!

Last week I promised a tip from my studio in the form of a demo. Yesterday, I filmed it. Today, the plan was to change the commentary to something infinitely more professional.

But that plan was scuppered this morning when 3 lovely blokes appeared at the door complete with tackety boots, power tools, and a radio that’s been blasting out (mercifully) easy-listening tunes for the last 5 hours.

They’re here to replace the wood-burning stove with one that’s less likely to kill us - the previous owner installed it himself! And is also somehow better for the planet.

It’s a noisy business! There ain’t no way I can record a commentary with that going on. And yes, I should have thought of that earlier.

But I didn’t.

So what to do?

Well, in the spirit of one of my favourite podcasts Helen Perry’s Just Bloody Post It - I’m going to do just that!

So here it is. Complete with nervous laughter, shaky camera work, and super-fast-high-pitched talking in my lilting Scottish brogue!

Apologies if you’ve no idea what I’m saying. Hopefully, the visuals are self-explanatory. I’ve included a list of the things I used below and also in the description box beneath the video - just in case!

I have to say this was Take-2. Take-1 included Scout trying to claw her way through a door.

And me swearing!

Those two events may or may not be connected.

The secret to creating fine lines.

Items featured -

  • Frog Tape (which doesn’t lift off paint) is available here.

  • Blue Spot Knife is available here.

  • Rembrandt Pastels are available here.

I’m not sure why but I feel the need to let you know that my video-editing skills are not usually so shabby, So in my defense here’s a video I made about my art practice that I edited to within an inch of its life.

See if you can spot the difference!

Please keep an eye on your inbox next week. There’ll be some thoughts on coping with feedback coming your way.

Any feedback for me? (See what I did there?!) Please feel free to send it my way. I’ve got my big girl panties on and would love to hear what you think.

And finally, if you enjoy my emails why not forward this one to any like-minded friend who can sign up for them here.

Till next time,

A wee bit about me. I’m a Scottish abstract artist working in mixed media. I’m a member of the Abstract’d Art Collective, part of the team at Art2Life, and a Coach Assistant on the Creative Visionary Programme with Nicholas Wilton. I previously ran a hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy practice working with many people including artists, musicians, performers, and writers. I live on the Isle of Cumbrae with my husband and a rather annoying cat called Scout. My work is held in collections in Canada, US, UK and UAE.
